Newton is little shy but would like to be out going and
demonstrative. He has a great smile and maybe with more command
of English he will be able to be more assertive. He has moved
way up in school. He will come in the dorm and choose a really
good video and watch all by himself sometimes. I think that is
how he helps himself learn English. He will be one to
watch....one of those shy, quiet smart ones.
We found Newton
at the Nairobi Children’s Home. Newton was located by the woman
who runs that Home. He comes from nearby Homabay, and could only
speak Luo when he arrived at IAA. His mother worked as a house
girl in Nairobi, became pregnant and lost her job. She
had nowhere to stay and was reduced to roaming and begging from
friends. She ultimately married (after giving birth to Newton)
an HIV infected man who passed on his disease. Both later died.
In-laws rejected Newton –because he was born out of wedlock. He
later stayed with a compassionate older couple who ultimately
could not care for him long-term. Then God stepped in with a
phone call from our friend at the Nairobi Children’s home and we
of course said, “YES!”. |
